The short version
- AV Dude is run by David Fleming. Questions about your data: support@avdude.com.
- We collect only what we need to sell you a license, deliver updates, support you and understand how the site is used.
- PayPal handles payments. We never see or store your card details.
- Your site’s license checks send your license key, site address and version numbers. We keep that while your license is active and for 1 year after.
- We use Google Analytics to see how visitors use avdude.com.
- We never sell your information.
1. What we collect and why
| When | What we collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You buy a license | Name and email from your PayPal account, your country, business name and VAT number (if you provide them), what you bought, the price and tax charged | To deliver your license, keep tax and accounting records, and support you |
| Your site checks its license | License key, site address, module, WordPress and PHP versions, and your server’s IP address | To validate your license, deliver signed updates and enforce site limits |
| You contact us | Your name, email address and whatever you write to us | To answer you and keep a record of support requests |
| You visit avdude.com | Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, through Google Analytics; your IP address in our host’s server logs | To understand how the site is used and keep it secure |
Payment details. Your card or bank details go only to PayPal. We never see or store them.
Fonts. Our fonts are served from avdude.com itself, so loading our pages sends nothing to Google Fonts.
2. Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information about your visit, such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type. We don’t use Google Analytics for advertising. You can block it with your browser’s privacy settings or Google’s opt-out browser add-on. If you’re in Europe, analytics doesn’t load until you choose “Accept analytics” in our banner, and choosing “Decline” means it never loads. Google is also told to keep analytics off for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland unless they’ve accepted. We remember your choice with a small cookie for one year; use the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of any page to change it.
Site cookies. WordPress sets cookies only when someone logs in to manage the site. Visitors and buyers don’t need an account.
Do Not Track. Browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, so our site doesn’t change its behavior when it receives one.
3. Who we share it with
We never sell your information or share it for others’ marketing. We share only what each of these services needs to do its job:
- PayPal processes payments and renewals. PayPal’s privacy statement covers what it does with your payment information.
- Google provides analytics, as described in Section 2.
- HostGator, our web host, stores the site, license records and server logs.
- HostGator email hosts support@avdude.com and stores messages you send us.
- Tax authorities, courts or law enforcement, when the law requires it, such as sales tax records or a valid legal order.
If AV Dude is ever sold or transferred, customer records would go to the new owner under the same commitments in this policy.
4. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| License-check data (key, site address, versions, IP address) | While your license is active, plus 1 year |
| Purchase and tax records | 7 years, for tax and accounting |
| Support messages | 3 years after your last message |
| Server logs | As long as our host keeps them, typically 7 days |
| Google Analytics data | 2 months for detailed data, then only in summary reports |
After that, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
5. Your choices
Email support@avdude.com to:
- see the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- ask us to delete it.
We reply within 2 business days and complete requests within 30 days. We may need to keep some records, such as purchase and tax records, for as long as the law requires, and deleting license data deactivates the license.
6. Children
avdude.com is for businesses and adults. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
7. Security
The site and every license check use encrypted connections (HTTPS). License responses are cryptographically signed, and download links expire. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we’ll tell you as the law requires. To report a vulnerability, see our Security page.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date below. For significant changes, we’ll also email active license holders at least 14 days in advance.
